What is there not to say about Rockstars new game Red Dead Redemption? From slow motion shootouts, horse races, cheating at texas holdem, hog tying criminals, hunting and skinning animals, to the awesome western scenery. Not to mention a ridiculously awesome storyline! Maybe I am a bit biased here because I like western flicks. I have never seen a game capture the western genre such as this. This game nails it, to the riding a horse mechanics all the way down to the matrix style dead-eye shooting ability. After the intro cut scenes I was a bit skeptical until I mounted my first horse and was on my way to complete in-game quests that followed the storyline. I normally am playing first person shooters and even though this is a 3rd person type shooter this game simply blew me away. I won’t spoil the story for anyone who hasn’t played it, but when I did the last quest as John Marston I dropped my jaw in awe. I couldn’t believe the twist, it was sad, it was true to the western gunslinger lifestyle, and it was purely impresionante (thats awesome in spanish).
I think parents might be duped a bit by this game. And by duped I mean if they are buying this game for their 12 year old son to play they might want to think again. In one sequence of the game I walked in on a senor and senorita banging each others brains out across a table, tips flapping everywhere. Now, I’m a grown ass man but I was very surprised, but hey one a side note she wasn’t very attractive and had nasty looking tits. Now the game may have an option to tone down the sexually explicit material in-game, I have yet to look for it, nor do I really care, but its possible there is an option.
The game does have a few glitches like your character may ghost into a wall from time to time but these are minor compared to the grand scale of this epic game. If you have not heard of this game yet, or are just skeptical I suggest picking up a copy of this game. I normally NEVER finish any solo campaigns on any game I own, I usually just jump right into the multiplayer action (which this game has as well), but the story is so rich in this game I had to finish it, and was satisfied completely. Again, I can’t give away any spoilers but I’m thinking about doing it all over again as John Marston, for those of you who have completed the game you’ll know what I’m talking about. This game deserves the game of the year award. For those of you who are die hard Modern Warfare 2 fans, I’d gladly trade MW2 in for Red Dead and thats saying alot.
